Best Uses for 100% Silicone Caulk – Interior Applications

100% silicone caulk is used where you would find water.  Where water can sit or hit.  Some perfect examples where you would want to use this type of silicone caulk sealant is silicone caulking bathtub, silicone caulking shower, shower head and handles area, and behind fittings.

Sometimes there are space on the floor in the bathroom area where you’d want to use the silicone caulk too.  And don’t forget about your kitchen area.  You should use 100% silicone caulk where the backsplash meets the quartz or granite countertop.  And also by your kitchen sink too.  Basically, where there is water, use this type of caulk sealant to keep the water out.

Best Uses for 100% Silicone Caulk – Exterior Applications

Best uses for 100% caulk can also apply to exterior applications too.  Let’s consider when you install a new door or install a new window(s).  These are all exposed to the outside weather elements.  Such as rain, snow, sleet, etc.  Keep the water out by using this specific type of silicone caulk sealant.  If not, you could experience wood rot because the water will get behind the wood area.  But make sure to NOT paint over this silicone caulk.  Paint will not stick to it and it will peel and look horrible.  Always remember, you cannot paint over silicone caulk.

Lotz of Logic

So the big rule of thumb is that where you have water inside or outside your home, you’ll want to use 100% silicone caulk.  Just don’t paint over it, and you should be all set.  It will protect water from getting behind surfaces such as tubs, shower, plumbing fixtures, sinks, backsplashes, doors, and windows.  If water gets behind these surfaces, you could experience wood rot, mold, mildew, and a whole host of issues.  Make sure your contractor uses the right caulk and has it outlined in his contract/estimate with you on what product he is using.
