Well, simply put, you should have deck cleaning and deck washing on your deck done at least once a year. Several reasons exist why you might want to clean your deck two to three times a year.
Deck Cleaning: Reasons to Clean or Wash Your Deck
Deck cleaning needs to be done for many reasons, and most times, you should clean it a few times a year:
- First, let’s start with location. If you have a deck that is on the north side of your home, you will probably get a lot of moisture and snow, and things that sit there that doesn’t dry out with the sun. You’re also going to get mold, mildew, algae, that’s going to get a lot of dirt. Deck cleaning is so necessary to keep a good handle on this type of problem.
- Second, trees, sap, leaves seeds that fall from the trees. These sit on the deck and they collect a lot of dirt and get ground into the surface.
- Third, how much use does your deck take? What kind of use am I talking about: kids or grandchildren coming over and possibly dropping their popsicles, jello, or accidentally spill their sticky juice, If you happen to have pets, then their muddy paws after a fresh rain will be all over your deck floor boards. If you use your grill many times each week, grilling actually can take a beating on your deck. When you drag your grill around the deck, or accidentally drop bbq sauce or the chicken’s marinade on the deck floor, it can attract many particles of dirt to it. This dirt then gets ground into the wood floor boards.
Letting any of these things sit on your deck will rot the boards. So make sure you keep your deck clear and clean.
