Everyone wants great curb appeal for their home.  When you drive up to your home, it just makes your house more inviting, even to yourself.  Many things contribute to better curb appeal. Some things are landscaping, driveways, but especially the exterior color of your home. Learn how to choose gutter color when getting your house painted or stained. You can have the gutters and downspouts blend in or stand out as an accent color.  This will help your home stand out from all the others in the neighborhood.

HOW TO CHOOSE GUTTER COLOR

Before you paint your gutters, it is essential to make sure they are clean. Pressure washing them is the best way to do this. Often they will have mold and mildew on them. If they do, you may want to use a good cleaner to remove it. Krud Kutter makes a cleaner that does an excellent job of removing that junk from your gutters. When you are trying to choose a color for your gutters and downspouts, there are a few things you need to consider. I always ask my customers, can you see your gutters and downspouts from the road.? Do you want them to stand out or blend in with the house?

GUTTER COLOR THAT BLENDS IN

Often they are painted to match the fascia and soffit around the house. Sometimes the horizontal part of the gutters is painted to match the fascia while the downspouts and elbows are the siding color when painting your exterior.  It helps to stand where you can see your entire house. Often gutters blend in with the roofline. Your roof is anywhere from a quarter up to half of your home’s overall color, so if you want your gutters and downspouts to blend in, find out what will coordinate well with your roof.

GUTTER COLORS THAT STAND OUT

You may want to make your gutters and downspouts a contrasting color. Sometimes you can make them different on the front of your house. It depends upon the layout of your home. It can make a very cool and bold statement.

When doing a contrasting color, we like first to loosen the gutters and downspouts so that we can paint behind them and the straps. You can paint the gutters and downspouts yourself, but it will take you several trips up and down a ladder. If you hire someone, it will be a little more expensive than just doing it yourself. That is because they will paint the straps as well.

LOTZ OF LOGIC

Whatever you do, it depends upon what your individual style and tastes are.  If you know you want something different but aren’t sure what you would like or what would look good, look on the internet, or drive through your neighborhood and see what other people have done. Another great tool you can get is a virtual paint software from online. This will allow you to see how the colors will look on your house before you paint them.

It is important for you, if you have a homeowners association, to check with them before you do anything and make sure you know what is allowed and what is prohibited. A few of our clients’ projects have been held up because of not doing this right away.
