What are the benefits to remodeling your mudroom?
Laundry room remodeling – So let’s talk about your laundry room. Yep, that’s the room nobody likes to go into because it’s synonymous with work. I find it interesting that is is the first room most people come into when they come home from work, shopping or just shuffling the kids around. I would say over 90% of my customers enter their home through their garage and the first room they come into is the mudroom/ laundry room. Check out my video below.
Changing the Lighting in the Laundry Room
I would start with changing out the lights. Usually what I see today are the 2 foot by 4 foot fluorescent light boxes. I would recommend changing that over to smaller recessed lights with a dimmer switch. It just gives you a more even light and not such a cold feeling like you’re in a surgical room.
Laundry Room Remodeling – Upgrading Flooring
Updating your flooring in the laundry room is a good idea because most home builders put in the cheapest flooring there. Let’s change that old worn-out yellow vinyl flooring. I’m suggesting either upgrading to a laminate floor or going to a porcelain tile. This will give the floor a much different feel and the room a will have a much more sophisticated look.
Upgrading Cabinets in Laundry Room
Then finally I would recommend putting in other cabinets or if space is available, laundry room benches with cubbies and shoe storage such as a locker-type for the kids or grandchildren for them to put their sports gear, school books & personal items. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you come in from the outside world what a difference a few changes will make in your attitude toward laundry.
Cost Effective Time to Do Remodel?
When would be a great time to do a laundry room remodel project? I would say if you are spending the time and money remodeling a powder room, hall bathroom or master bathroom, having your laundry room partially or fully remodeled would be a great time. Why? Because the cabinets and vanities are being installed already in the bathroom, so it wouldn’t cost much more to have the cabinets in your laundry room installed at the same time.
