Painting Aluminum Siding: Can I Paint My Aluminum-Siding?
Yes, you absolutely can paint your aluminum siding of your home. It’s a lot more cost effective than replacing it. So how do we go about doing that? Check out the video below by clicking on the middle arrow.
Painting Aluminum Siding is a Three-Step Process
- First, let’s make sure your aluminum siding is good and clean. Let’s get it pressure washed, let’s get the mold and mildew, the dirt, the oxidized paint and chalkiness off. Here’s a tip to know if it’s chalky. Run your fingers across the surface. If you get a white powdery substance on your hands that means the paint is oxidizing. It’s important to pressure wash your aluminum siding regularly.
- Second, let’s follow that up with a good caulk job.
- Third, apply two coats of a high-quality latex paint.
Painting in the Shade
Here’s the final tip: make sure you’re painting in the shade and that you’re working in the shaded parts of the house. The reason is, is that if the paint dries too quickly, you could have adhesion problems, especially with aluminum sided homes.
Homeowners can tackle their outside painting of their home. But over the years, I’ve seen too many homes not prepared properly, and it can peel horribly. Since your home is one of your biggest investments, I would suggest calling a long-standing painting contractor to get your aluminum siding painted properly. Brenda and I have served Naperville and the Chicago area for 28 years, and we’d be happy to help you out.
