Painting kitchen cabinets, is it a good idea?
Painting Kitchen Cabinets: Is It a Good Idea?
It is usually not a good idea to paint the cabinets in your kitchen unless you have good reasons. Let’s discuss the main reason you might want to paint your kitchen cabinets: want to change the overall look of your kitchen but at a limited budget. It is cheaper to paint the cabinets in your kitchen than it is to reface or replace them.
Only Time You Should be Painting Kitchen Cabinets
I am not a big believer in painting the cabinets in your unless you are putting your home up for sale in the next year and you want to refreshen up the kitchen. There are many downsides to painting your cabinets if you plan on staying. If you have rings or long nails or children for that matter, you will in the next 1-3 years chip or wear down that paint surface. Touch-ups will be in your future. If you plan on staying 3-10 years, I would suggest a complete installation of new cabinets. Now you don’t have to break the bank with custom-built cabinets, but they would be your better bet.
Either option is a good choice, depending upon your individual needs and goals.
If you do plan on getting new cabinets to try reusing your old cabinets in another part of your home.
