Tub to Shower Conversion is the Trend
Well, you are in good company. The American Institute of Architects‘ “Home Design Trends Survey” showed that in 2013, 61% of homeowners were wanting a shower stall with no tub. Compare this to the year before in 2012, where only 49% wanted the same. We are noticing that most of our phone calls coming into the office for master bathroom remodeling projects are for a whirlpool tub to shower conversion, and most times to enlarge the area and include a walk-shower shower with a seat.
So what makes someone want to have a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub. There are quite a few reasons but some top ones to mention are:
- Most people over the age of 55 have a hard time getting up from sitting down in a low tub;
- Bathtubs are a huge waste of water;
- Bathtubs can pose a safety hazard
When remodeling your bathroom, having a walk-in shower that has a seat installed is a smart idea. You have plenty of room to not only clean the shower but in case you have any type of surgery in the future, you will have plenty of room to either stand in the shower or the option to also rest on the seat inside the shower area.
It is advised to keep one bathtub in your home for marketability in case you need to sell your home in the future. If a younger family wants to purchase your home, they more than likely will want a bathtub to bathe their children in. So consider only converting your master bedroom bathroom into the one with the larger walk-in shower that has a seat. You will be so excited that you did.
