Why Prime Before Painting
What are the four main reasons you should be priming walls before painting? Let’s take a look:
- Removing Wallpaper – when you remove wallpaper, there will always be some sort of wallpaper paste residue. You can clean the walls super clean, but you should prime the walls with a product called Gardz. It is great to use to get the walls primed before painting. Otherwise, you will have bubbling and peeling. Here is a video link to my YouTube video: 0:42.0 [wallpaper paste priming with Gardz]
- Bare Drywall – If you have done a room addition or installed some new bare drywall, let’s say there was a hole in your wall, then that bare drywall will need priming. Here is a video link to my YouTube video: 1:06.3 [bare drywall priming]
- Lighter Color to Darker Color – If you want to change up the color in your room and go from a lighter color to a darker color you will need to prime. Priming here is necessary to make sure the coverage works. Quick tip: tint the primer close to your new wall paint color to get maximum coverage. here is a video link to my YouTube video: 1:32.3 [going from lighter color to darker color paint]
- Grease Stains – if you want to cover up grease stains, priming walls before painting is necessary so that it doesn’t bleed through the paint. Here is a video link to my YouTube video: 1:43.8 [covering up grease stains, what to use]
